Media Literacy 2.x: Employing Fair Use Educationally in a Remix Era | EDUCAUSE.

Digital practices in education—everything from remix assignments to posting of material on Blackboard—provide new challenges to educational copyright policies and stretch far past existing educational and library exemptions. The doctrine of fair use, which permits reuse of copyrighted material under some circumstances, has become an ever more vital tool. The best-practices model pioneered at American University has greatly expanded the utility of fair use for filmmakers, online video makers, media literacy teachers, archivists, and OpenCourseWare makers. Their experience is valuable to librarians as they begin the same process.

Adobe’s Connect Pro brings Flash to iPhone through back door

Adobe’s Connect Pro brings Flash to iPhone through back door.

Adobe’s Connect Pro Mobile for the iPhone and iPod Touch is a solid, free way to connect to Web conferences on the go, but what’s really interesting is that this is the first app that has shoehorned Flash on the platform. The app was created in Flash Professional CS5 beta and uses Adobe’s Packager converter to work on the iPhone.

Why Flash on the iPhone/iPad doesn’t always help mLearning

Not only do most mobile devices NOT support the Flash Player, but they also don’t support Java.  Why does this matter? A big part of eLearning revolves around being able to not only VIEW content, but to also TRACK content.  Tracking is fundamental to delivering formalized eLearning training, which usually involves Learning Management Systems.  Here is the second part of the mLearning problem.  Many Learning Management Systems use client side Java (meaning Java runs in the browser) to do the actual tracking with SCORM and AICC content.

Adobe Connect Pro – Mobile Recordings

Today I had a student inquire about downloading Adobe Connect lectures to an iPod. So, we are going to “Make Offline” archives [as FLV files] and convert them to MP4 files.  As the voice of a student says, “if you can do this it would be so helpful not only to myself but I am sure all of your students”.

Wish me luck!
